Feminist approach is concerned with gender dimension which is important in considering in writing and reading as well. It is also concerned with the role of female generally in writing and its role in the society.
Feminist approach is is also concerned with equality for both gender, because all too often male is consider as more powerful and superior over females in different dimensions. It was also argued that we all undergo through three major phases of development, and these stages are labeled as feminine which involves "imitation", feminist involves protest against standards and values. Female is more concerned in self-discovery or self-identity.

In this approach, it stresses the importance of the reader, because without a reader the text is considered as no value and no meaning until the reader reads it. It explains that the text once was read, it has already it's meaning and value.. Though
giving meaning is mentioned it has'nt have structure and guidelines to be followed in giving meaning unlike other approaches. The reader has all his right to express or say what he observed or perceived after reading a particular text. Naturally there could be different responses and perspectives from the readers simply because readers have different orientations, perceptions and education.

The Great Gatsby

One of the novel's theme is "sometimes, what is forbidden is what the heart desires" like in the case of Jay Gatsby, he knew that Daisy is a married woman but he is still "desiring " for Daisy's heart.
This novel has a relation with the "Great American Dream" which is the desire to have great power and strength, to be in the pedestal, to have great prosperity, material wealth and possession, (but now, they are facing a great economic crisis which will soon affect other countries like the Philippines. ='c

Reader-Response Approach

I really enjoyed reading the novel "Things Fall Apart" because it feels like I became closer to Africa when I read it. Reading this novel gave me a hint of what it is like to live in Africa. It seems that I am really present there when Ezinma got sick, when Okonkwo accidentally kills a boy, when Okonkwo's family was exiled until the time when they returned to Umuofia, when the Missionaries arrived and until when Okonkwo finammy kills himself.
Although I admire Okonkwo for his wisdom, courage and for his plans for his tribe, I strongly disagree with his way of treating his opposite gender. ='c

Hinduism

Hinduism is the major religion of India, it teaches about commitment and respect for an ideal way of life. They have the so called Caste System which refers to the duties of one's class, this is really divisions of different classes of every member which is part of their religion. Their classes is divided into four great classes, first are the priest, second are the warriors or rulers, third are the merchants or farmers and fourth the peasants and laborers and lastly the untouchables, these are those whose occupations require them to handle unclean objects they consider these kind of class as the most lower level of living. Their general duties is concerned with moral acts, which includes non-violence, purity, faith, courage, self-control. That is their major uniqueness from other religions.

There is a strong perpetuation of the male supremacy in the novel "Things Fall Apart". For instance, our central character, Okonkwo, always tend to belittle the female gender. There is an instance that he beats his second wife, Ekwefi and nearly kill her with a gun. For him, the female gender is "as weak as an old woman".
I can say that Okonkwo is a feminist because he protest against the standards and values, advocacy of minority rights.

Reaction

It is very much true that when we love we should reserve something for ourselves. I agree, because we must not give all our love to a certain person and having no love left for ourselves.
I also believe that before we can love others, we should first love ourselves more than anyone else or anything else. So that we can give or share that genuine love that we have inside our hearts and it will come out naturally and unselfishly. The love must grow inside us, as the saying goes, "We cannot give what we do not have", its the same in loving we should put love first in ourselves before we can share that love to others.
